I am thinking about Philips Hue for my kitchen and have some questions about operation. (3) of my lights are recessed with a standard socket and (3) of the lights are pendant with chandelier type sockets. At this time I will only change the (3) recessed to the Hue bulbs, so I assume I will need to keep a standard switch in place or is there a network type switch where when I turn on, only the pendants will turn on and then control the Hue via Siri or app?

It would be best to use a standard on/off wall switch and when you have hue bulbs in those fixture always leave the switch on so that you can control them with the hue application. Philips does not make a hue bulb in chandelier type sockets, hopefully that will become available in the future. For recessed it you could use either the Hue A19’s or BR30’s, check the dimensions here to ensure they will fit.
